ARTIST STATEMENT

My name is Mary Cooper Quinn Portera and my artist signature along with my logo is Mcqp. Welcome to my website ArtbyMaryCooper.

I currently live in Navarre, Florida where I find so much inspiration for creating art here along The Emerald Coast. The beaches provide a continuous playground for adventure, fun and exploration. I am thankful for lifetime memories of coming to the area with friends and family so I knew it would be an area to relocate to with my husband after he and I retired from our first career.

My art style is Modern Expressionism and I use mixed media items during my painting process. When I want more depth and texture in my paintings I will use collage and different mediums. Next, I use pastels, spray paint, acrylic inks, and acrylic paint for creating many layers. Then I will use markers, oil pastels and oil paint. It is a process that is fun, fast, and liberating. The creative process is very intuitive, so emotions come through onto the canvas in color. I love the feelings that different colors evoke, so naturally my art is bright, bold and vivid. It may elicit a feeling to you and something completely different to someone else. I hope you will revel in the art.

MARY COOPER’S BIOGRAPHY

Mary Cooper grew up in the Southeastern area of the United States where she started summer art classes at the age of 7. She has fond memories of painting on the back porch while drinking lemonade and listening to wind chimes in the breeze. To this day painting evokes those happy memories.

She retired from her first career in Public Health and then moved eight times in the USAF as a military spouse, what an adventure. During this time, she started attending “Cabernet and Create” type painting classes. During the onset of the Covid pandemic she started taking online art classes, so it was a perfect time for being intuitive and experimenting with art and self- expression. She graduated on August 11, 2022 from The

Mastery Program at The Milan Art Institute. She is enjoying painting in her studio where it has plenty of sunlight and is close to the Navarre beach. Hearing, feeling and smelling the ocean breeze brings back those memories of art classes at home so long ago. Mary Cooper's future plans will be expanding in the local area and online. She is excited to start a second career having fun while creating art. Be sure to check back often for new paintings being posted.
